'BURLESQUE' RECOUPS ENTIRE BUDGET BACK + MORE

Well a lot of people didn’t think this would happen labeling it the next “Glitter” or “Showgirls,” but Christina Aguilera and crew did it making back their film Burlesque entire film budget (a huge $55 million–Screen Gems’ largest ever) and then some–with territories still to be released in!

The truth remains that the hugely talented cast wouldn’t have signed on for such a project if they did not believe in it and this certainly proves what that project is. You have one of the greatest voices of this generation Christina Aguilera, who despite being in the industry over a decade now waited to make her movie debut despite all her peers doing so years before and countless offers, chose this movie to make her debut in–that says something right there. You have living icon Cher who hasn’t made a movie in over a decade make her movie comeback with this movie. You have an Academy Award nominee Stanley Tucci. You have some of the hottest young actors in the business Cam Giganet, Kristen Bell, Diana Argon, and Julianne Hough. Just from the cast it was a winning formula.

While I will be the first to admit, some of the writing and storylines were quite horrid, the movie was shot beautifully and had incredible music in it which ended up landing them not one but two Golden Globe nominations for Song of the Year with Christina’s “Bound To You” and Cher’s “You Haven’t Seen The Last Of Me.” Not to mention the Picture of the Year Comedy/Musical nomination.

To top it all off, the movie is still yet to open in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and several Asian and European countries. Look for Burlesque to continue making money, and if the award shows work in their favor a possible second push for the film and the soundtrack. Congratulations to Christina especially who had a bout of bad press around her when the film came but still ended up on top. Did you see Burlesque? Do you think it’ll pick up any awards come awards season?

Editors Note:
I still can't believe that people had the audacity to say that 'BURLESQUE' was going to be the next 'Glitter' or 'Showgirls'. Christina shut them up. Take that 'Crossroads'. Who owns the throne? You do Chrissy!you Jeff.
