Christina Aguilera Is 'Really Talented' In 'Burlesque,' Robin Antin Says

Christina Aguilera Is 'Really Talented' In 'Burlesque,' Robin Antin Says
Pussycat Dolls creator says the singer is 'doing really well' in big-screen debut.

Onetime Pussycat Dolls guest performer Christina Aguilera is filming her big-screen debut in the movie musical "Burlesque," which is being helmed by Steve Antin, brother of PCD creator Robin Antin. Robin said it's great to see her brother and Aguilera working together on the flick because they bring something special out in each another.

"It's going very well, and Christina's great," Robin told MTV News of the singer, who performed with the Pussycat Dolls revue in Las Vegas back in 2003. "It's a great opportunity for her, and she's really talented, obviously. She came and was a guest in the Pussycat Dolls, and that's how that really happened; that's how my brother met Christina. ... I think the movie's going to be very cool."

The flick is about a small-town girl (Aguilera) who moves to Los Angeles to find fame in the big city as a singer. She eventually gets a job working in a nightclub. While Aguilera isn't an entertainment-industry rookie like her character, this is her first big role as an actress. For those who aren't sure Aguilera can pull it off, Robin insisted that she has the acting chops, a sentiment "Twilight" star Cam Gigandet recently shared with MTV News.

"She's doing really well," Robin said. "She's very talented, and it's great when you have a director like my brother, Steve. ... He truly is one of the best directors. That's what a good director is: It's to get your actress, whether they've had experience or not, to be great."

"Burlesque" hits theaters in November 2010.

Christina's drawing for Target House’s Elephant Exhibition.

Elephant Exhibition
Celebrity friends of Target House, such as Oprah Winfrey, Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride, Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, Maya Angelou, Christina Aguilera, Rob Thomas and Katherine Heigl have all joined the likes of John Travolta and Tom Hanks to design elephant “works of art” to be framed and unveiled as part of Target House’s Elephant Exhibition.
The exhibition was conceived to echo the life-sized elephant water fountain sculpture designed by architect Michael Graves that greets guests and families at the entrance to the Target House grounds. Elephants represent family, long life, strength and playfulness, which is why they serve as a mascot for Target House.

Stephen Webster Launching Christina Aguilera-Inspired Jewelry Line.

Christina Aguilera is already the face of Stephen Webster's celeb-favored jewelry line -- and rocks a 5-carat Webster wedding ring -- now she's also serving as the inspiration for the British jeweler's diffusion line, which will retail for $25-$70 on Aguilera's Web site starting March 2010.

"It's by Stephen Webster but it's Christina Aguilera-inspired," Webster explained to StyleList during a visit to Neiman Marcus in San Francisco. "We're making the collection now and it's really for her fan base -- for young people, not for my customers."

"It's got to fit in where Juicy Couture jewelry fits," he told us, before elaborating on the design details.

"I took some iconic things about Christina and made it into jewelry. I did a really cool big chain with big lips and the part that goes through the lips is a rose. There's a Christina charm bracelet and we did some things with her pets, some hats she's worn and something burlesque-themed," he said.

"I worked with my young team on it and they love the project. Christina's never had anything like this and the only experience we've had is the mosquito ring we did."

The mosquito ring he's referring to is a $75 piece of costume jewelry Webster created for the charity Malaria No More UK. It's a white gold-plated and faux diamond and ruby ring which was photographed numerous times on Victoria Beckham. Two shipments of 300 both sold out in a matter of hours on Asos.com this fall.

"If all of these things sort of work, I'd then think we are ready to do a collaboration," Webster revealed, referring to a deal with a fast fashion retailer along the lines of H&M.

"But you have to have a real buzz around your brand with the people who shop at H&M and Target. Otherwise, it doesn't always work with jewelry. You've got to have that frenzy."

Here's hoping his Aguilera line drums up the hype he's waiting for. We have a feeling affordable Stephen Webster jewelry at a mass retailer would do just fine... um, now. (Hint, hint.)

Celebrity jewelry lines seem to be the way to go these days. Check out Brad and Angelina's new collection of gems.

Holiday shopping with Christina and Max.

Fitting in quality bonding time with her young son while readying for the work week, Christina Aguilera took little Max on a shopping trip in West Hollywood on Sunday (December 13).
The mother/son duo ended up paying a visit to Maxfield’s, with Max emerging from the department store with a tasty treat in his hand.
Not ready to go home quite yet, Miss Aguilera’s adorable boy begged to play with the stone sculpture outside before hopping in her arms and heading to the car.
Aside from family time, Christina has also been working on the new movie “Burlesque” - with co-star Stanley Tucci telling MTV News of having Christina in the film, “I hear she’s wonderful. I’ve been talking to some of the people at the studio, and everyone is thrilled with her.”

'The Lovely Bones' Star Stanley Tucci Praises Christina Aguilera's Acting Debut In 'Burlesque'

When Eminem decided that his status as a superstar musician gave him the credentials to become an actor, the result was “8 Mile,” an Oscar-nominated instant classic; Mariah Carey’s 2001 bomb “Glitter” might just be the worst movie ever made. Somewhere in between, we’ve had Britney’s “Crossroads,” Whitney Houston’s “The Bodyguard,” 50 Cent’s “Get Rich or Die Tryin’,” and dozens of other boundary-defying debuts. Now, it’s time for Christina Aguilera to finally make the move – and one of her famous co-stars thinks Xtina has what it takes.

“I hear she’s wonderful,” explained Stanley Tucci, the accomplished veteran actor/writer/director of more than 80 movies and TV shows, who has been cast alongside Aguilera in “Burlesque,” also starring Cher, Kristen Bell and Cam Gigandet. “I’ve been talking to some of the people at the studio, and everyone is thrilled with her.”

Written and directed by Hollywood vet Steve Antin, the film tells the story of a small-town girl (Aguilera) from Iowa who moves West to unleash her angelic voice, then ends up starring in a neo-burlesque club on Sunset Boulevard run by Cher’s character. A few weeks into shooting, the excitement over Aguilera’s first acting gig has manifested itself in nearly daily leaked photos and video from the set, depicting a simply-dressed Aguilera in character.

Tucci has heard good things about Aguilera’s performance so far, but won’t witness anything with his own eyes for another few weeks. “I don’t know [how her acting will be], because I haven’t been there yet. I don’t start until January,” he explained. “They’re shooting [now], but I start in January.”

Currently, Tucci is getting some amazing buzz himself for playing a twisted serial killer in this weekend’s “The Lovely Bones,” a role that could secure the actor’s first Oscar. Coming off that acclaimed performance, the versatile character actor can’t get much more polar-opposite than joining Aguilera’s flick.

“I play Cher’s right-hand man, confidant and best friend who helps her run the burlesque,” Tucci explained. “And Christina Aguilera plays the ingénue. It should be really fun.”

“They sing and dance,” he said of Cher and Christina. “Luckily, I don’t.”

As for the music in the film, Tucci said he had not been briefed yet on whether Xtina will be performing other people’s songs, her own new compositions, or even some old classics. “No, I don’t know,” he explained. “I’m sure we’ll be hearing about it soon, though.”

Hop into the Holiday Spirit with "My Kind of Christmas"

Christmas is just 15 days away, and your Holiday experience is not complete without Christina Aguilera's My Kind of Christmas. I had not heard one Christmas song this whole year until I started it off with this delightful pop performance of some classic Holiday hits. It was released on October 24th, 2000 in the U.S. and October 27th, 2000 in the U.K. The album went platinum in the U.S. and sold over 3.5 million copies worldwide. An interesting fact about the album is that the song, "Climb Every Mountain," originally performed by Julie Andrews in the movie, "The Sound of Music," and which can be heard on her "My Reflection" DVD, was recorded for My Kind of Christmas but the song remained absent when the physical release became available. The song has yet to be leaked through the internet, or through any other available source.

  1. "Christmas Time" (Alex Alessandroni, Chaka Blackmon, Steven Brown, Ray Cham, Ron Fair) – 4:02
  2. "This Year" (Christina Aguilera, Lauren Christy, Graham Edwards, Charlie Midnight, Scott Spock) – 4:14

  6. "Oh Holy Night" (Adolphe Adam, John Sullivan Dwight) – 4:52
  7. "These Are the Special Times" (Diane Warren) – 4:31

Make sure to add it to your collection by picking it up on AMAZON.

The Bravery frontman Sam Endicott & Santigold producer John Hill wrote on Christina's new LP

Hill turned out to be a fruitful collaborator for Endicott, not just on the Bravery's album, but as a cowriter on some outside material. Hill is known for critical-fave fare like M.I.A. and Santogold, "but he’s also done J.Lo and Christina Aguilera... and then Amazing Baby. So he’s done a lot of super-indie rock and then also pop stuff. He was producing Shakira, and she was like 'Play me something you've been working on.' So he and I got together and wrote a few songs, and she wound up recording two or three of them"—including the hit "She Wolf." (Sadly, the Bravery did not consider that as a Cover Art choice this time around.)

Julianne Hough on "Burlesque" and Christina Aguilera.

In a recent interview Julianne Hough was asked about Burlesque and Christina Aguilera and here is what she said:
And you're shooting another film with one of your musical idols ...

Yes, I'm filming 'Burlesque' right now, and it's fabulous. It has a huge, amazing cast.
Christina Aguilera, Cher,Stanley Tucci, Eric Dane and Kristen Bell all star in it, and it's just a great film. The storyline is great, and the dancing is phenomenal. And of course Christina sings her butt off in it!

Has Christina given you any tips about the music business?

Absolutely! She knows what she wants, and she's phenomenal at everything she does. I was in the studio with her the other day and I was flipping out because she's been my idol since she first came out, so it was just a really cool experience for me just being there and watching how she works. I was blown away! Her voice is so phenomenal, and hearing her sing these new songs is just amazing.

Kara Dioguardi Praises Christina Aguilera's 'Ain't No Other Man'

Found this piece of news about Kara Dioguardi talking about this world's top vocalist, Christina Aguilera. Watch @ 1:30

"American Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi is already getting set for the upcoming season of the Fox reality show. In a recent interview with Billboard, DioGuardi said that it was "tough" seeing Paula Abdul go but that she's "looking forward to getting to know" new performance-round judge Ellen DeGeneres better: "I think she's going to be a great addition."

DioGuardi also talked about a number of people she is currently working with, from Adam Lambert to Carrie Underwood to even Rascal Flatts. She also did a little bit of work with Allison Iraheta from this past season.

However, when asked if she could pick a favorite number from her past collaborations, she pulled one name out of a hat pretty quickly: Christina Aguilera for "Ain't No Other Man." DioGuardi loves that the song is a "celebration" of love, which is something that she doesn't always have an opportunity to write in a music industry filled with scorned breakup songs.

Are you excited to see how Ellen DeGeneres fares on "American Idol?" Let me know your thoughts with a comment and stay tuned for more news leading up to January's season premiere.

Susan Boyle's Dreams Stacking Up Against Music's Elite

Bob Lefsetz sent an e-mail to his many subscribers last week, lamenting the eye-popping chart success of Susan Boyle, the I Dreamed a Dream singer who was discovered earlier this year on the realty TV show Britain's Got Talent.

Lefsetz, the popular music industry analyst behind the Lefsetz Letter, argued that, despite its success, Boyle's debut record, I Dreamed a Dream, has "the nutritional value of Fruit Loops." Fair enough. Fruit Loops might not be good for you, but millions sure do like them, nonetheless.

Boyle's debut sold 701,000 copies in its first week, the best six-day total for an album in the U.S. this year. Boyle also notched the best opening week for a debut album by a female artist since 1991, and the best opening week for a debut artist in nearly a decade, and hers is now the fastest selling U.K. debut album of all time.

How does Boyle's debut stack up sales-wise against the competition? Don't expect miracles, Boyle boosters; sales normally drop off considerably in an album's second week. And I don't need to tell you that consumers don't buy records at the rate they used to, which means she'll be hard-pressed to match her fellow female singers with star-making debuts.

The race is on. Here's who she'll have to beat, with U.S. sales totals provided by www.riaa.com.

- Alanis Morissette, Jagged Little Pill (16 million). Morissette, a Canadian, set all sorts of U.S. sales records with her first international release, a rock-inspired offering that was noticeably different from her earlier Canadian pop records. Jagged Little Pill, which won four Grammy Awards, remains a rare achievement. It remains the third biggest seller by a female in U.S. history, and joins select company — Michael Jackson's Thriller and Celine Dion's Falling Into You — as one of only three recordings in history to spend an entire year in the Top 10.

- Britney Spears, . . . Baby One More Time (14 million). The record that introduced Britney Spears to the world was the decade's teen-pop pace-setter. If the self-titled debut by the Backstreet Boys, released two years earlier, was a monstrous success, 1999's . . . Baby One More Time was a lightning bolt. But would it have the same impact today? Not likely.

- Whitney Houston, Whitney Houston (13 million). The debut from one of Clive Davis's biggest discoveries will celebrate its 25th anniversary in January with a deluxe edition aimed at re-introducing Houston to those who've forgotten how great she once was. It was full of pop hits (Saving All My Love for You, How Will I Know, and Greatest Love of All, for starters) that also straddled soul and R&B, a killer combination that made it tough to beat. Whitney Houston was the first of many successes: Only three artists (Barbra Streisand, Mariah Carey and Madonna) have sold more records than Houston.

- Jewel, Pieces of You (12 million). Jewel Kilcher never came close to matching the success of her debut, Pieces of You, which turned the Alaskan folk singer into a superstar overnight. She struggled with the limelight at times, which is to be expected. The album was a surprise hit, and many of the highlights rode onto the charts with a uniquely naive delivery that later came to be Kilcher's undoing. Pieces of You was a hit in North America only, which meant it wasn't built for the long haul.

- Dixie Chicks, Wide Open Spaces (12 million). Despite the group's moderate success early on as a bluegrass outfit, the move in 1998 to a major label and switch to a poppier sound (thanks to the pipes of new singer Natalie Maines) seemed like a natural course of action for the Dixie Chicks. The results reinforced the new direction: Wide Open Spaces won two Grammy Awards, and made superstars out of the trio, who were able to notch appearances on both the pop and country charts.

- Norah Jones, Come Away With Me (10 million). Want to know how unanticipated Norah Jones' success was? The sweet-singing pop singer and pianist was booked to play Victoria, B.C.'s jazz festival before her debut album, a date that was later scuttled once Come Away With Me took off like a shot. It went on to sweep the Grammy Awards, which put fuel on an already sizzling fire. Jones' 2002 debut remains one of the best-selling efforts of the current decade.

- Mariah Carey, Mariah Carey (9 million). Stardom was not pre-determined for Mariah Carey. Despite an obvious abundance of talent, her 1990 debut, after debuting quietly at No. 80, took almost a year to reach the top of the charts. It would eventually become a juggernaut, thanks to four No. 1 singles, and remains the third biggest seller in Carey's catalogue.

- Ace of Base, The Sign (9 million). I don't know what's weirder — that Ace of Base's North American debut, The Sign, overtook Soundgarden's Superunknown for top spot on the charts, or that it was later unseated from its peak by Pantera's Far Beyond Driven. Food for thought. The public face of the Swedish quartet were sisters Jenny and Linn Berggren, whose ice-cool vocals on two catchy singles, All That She Wants and The Sign, propelled the album to No. 1 in 14 countries.

- Lauryn Hill, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (8 million). These days, the former Fugees singer is well out of the public eye; friends and bandmates in recent years have called Hill "way out there," among other things. That doesn't do any harm to her auspicious debut. Hill was on-point back in '98, racking up a record 10 Grammy nominations (she won five) and generally killing the competition.

- Christina Aguilera, Christina Aguilera (8 million). In the teen-pop category, Aguilera always placed second to Britney Spears, but it was Aguilera who beat her nemesis for Best New Artist at the 2000 Grammy Awards. Worth remembering. Almost a decade later, Aguilera's career is still in fine shape, despite the staleness of her debut.

Have you ever had your feet kissed in public? Christina has!

Ah, to be Christina Aguilera. That lucky girl has a seriously lovely husband – and some good friends that will literally kiss her feet (and not her butt!)

When Xtina got tired during a private holiday party in LA’s Brentwood area on Saturday, her hubby Jordan Bratman literally “scooped her up and carried her out because her feet were hurting,” an eyewitness tells HollywoodLife.com

And not only does she have a doting husband, but Xtina got some love from pal Clint Culpepper, whose company, Screen Gems, is producing her new musical film, Burlesque.

According to our witness, Clint, the President of Sony’s Screen Gems, got down on his hands and knees at the Grey Goose-sponsored fete and started kissing Christina’s feet!

“It was so bizarre!” says our source. “Jordan was looking at them like they were crazy, like what is this wacko doing? But Christina was laughing and loving it!”

Wouldn’t you?

Christina Aguilera: Family Christmas Tree Fun

Getting into the holiday spirit, Christina Aguilera and husband Jordan Bratman took their son Max out Christmas tree shopping in Los Angeles, California on Sunday (December 6).

All bundled up for the chilly weather, the happy family mingled with staff workers and greeted a few roaming pooches as they hand picked their season’s tree after wandering the grounds.

Meanwhile, Christina has been getting back into work mode - as she’s reportedly working on a new album due out next year.

Of the effort, producer/songwriter Tricky Stewart told Vibe, “With Christina it’s a little different, because Christina wants music that you haven’t heard before. She did things that she’s never necessarily heard on the radio. She doesn’t want a record that sounds like anything else so you’re trying to create an entirely new sound for an artist.”

Tricky added, “The three tracks that I did, they’re all uptempo tracks so we definitely kind of get the club moving but it’s just a matter of her doing different styles and using her voice in different ways.”

Inspire's Amazing Impression

The lineup of celebrities with fragrance deals resembles the invitation list for the People’s Choice Awards. There are film stars, TV personalities, pop singers and socialites, all with a marketable image and a thirsty fan base that will lap up every last drop of what these public figures bottle and sell.

Linda Newman, who recently waited in line at a Los Angeles department store to meet rapper 50 Cent and sample his new fragrance, ‘Power by 50 Cent’, announced to the crowd: “I already sprayed it on me.”

When asked if she would be giving her bottle of the men’s fragrance to a husband, boyfriend or brother, she clutched it to her chest. “No. I’ll put it on my shelf and spray it every now and then, and have a reminder of 50 Cent to be there all day.” Newman, 33, also bought Christina Aguilera’s ‘Inspire’, which she also proudly displays on a shelf at home. “I think she’s an incredible person, very deep, very focused, very amazing.”

Tricky Stewart talks about project with Christina

How did you approach working with Christina Aguilera versus R&B artists?

Hey everyone! So, I gave Christina some promotion tonight. I posted her "Keeps Gettin' Better" video on a Billboard in DOWNTOWN San Antonio, TX! It's kind of dark, but it was fun showing it to people that were exiting the Nutcracker Ballet! My great friend Mr. Dennis Obama and myself did this for all you Christina Aguilera Fans! Hope you all enjoy it!

Simon Cowell on Christina Aguilera

Who are some of your favorite entertainers of the last decade?
As an actor, I really like Philip Seymour Hoffman. I think he’s a genius. Music-wise, certainly in the last year I love Lady Gaga. Mainly because she’s made pop music fun again. I love Christina Aguilera, I think she’s incredible. And Beyoncé is the biggest star we’ve seen in 20 years. And I was very negative about her once—far, far too early on in her career.

Steal Sia's new track, which in turn may be stolen from Aguilera.

The buttery voice and snazzy reverb of Australia's own Sia is back, and this time she will undoubtedly become a household name, on her own.

Even though her monster single "Breathe Me" blared through the cracks of every angsty art student's dorm room in 2005, Sia had TV to thank for that momentary success. After that track closed out HBO's "Six Feet Under," some of her other songs began to pop-up on ABC's "Private Practice" and FOX's recently cancelled "Dollhouse."

But her latest song, entitled "You've Changed," leads me to believe her newer, more dance-tacular sound, is prime for popular picking.

The fast-paced, bell-ringing, Motown-infused “You’ve Changed,” is the first track to be released from her upcoming April 2010 album "We Are Born." After playing the song a few times, I remembered that Sia was one of the artistsChristina Aquilera was collaborating with on her new CD. Could it be that Sia got a little motivation from X-tina? Give it a listen and decide for yourself below.

Christina Aguilera Direct TV commercial "VIDEO"!!!!

Christina Aguilera Direct TV Commercial

Quoting ChristinaVIP:

ChristinaVIP can confirm that the rumored commercial Christina was doing with DIRECTV Satellite Television is 100% true. The commercial, based around her music video for “Keeps Gettin’ Better,” features a cameo of sorts from Christina who makes a couple cute play on words. The segment should be airing soon, but I have no specific date at this point.

“Ya, She’s out to save the world….from cable!”
