'BURLESQUE' BLOG REVIEW

The movie is about a young girl, Alice aka Ali played by Christina Aguilera, with aspirations to be a singer/dancer. She stumbles into a place called Burlesque Lounge that features live sexy dancing to music while lip syncing vocals (Cher's character, Tess, is the only one in that place that actually sings live). Alice wants a job there but has to prove herself and work her way to become a ‘star’. While Ali struggles to get a chance to follow her dream, Tess struggles to keep her lounge.

Jumping right into it I was very impressed with the outfits that the women wear throughout the movie. Top notch costume design, and very sexy leaving the male audience drooling and the woman squealing in delight. The choreography was very appealing to the eye and flowed very well. I caught myself constantly trying to keep up with the beautiful women dancing but the star of course was the main one shining ever so brightly.

Christina Aguilera’s voice is hauntingly beautiful and sends shivers down my spine as she vocalizes. Every moment that she performed caused one to hold their breath due to the sheer magnitude of her vocal prowess. After every performance one couldn’t help but clap because it felt as if we were watching this live show and it would be rude not to. The best part was that the musical numbers don’t feel forced. Most of the songs are sung during performances rather then bursting into song randomly.

If there was anything to nitpick in the film was that the story was completely predictable. The movie does show character growth but it’s very obvious where it’s going. Also it has some corny moments not too many but they are still there. Most movie villain clichés can be found in this film. Thankfully it doesn’t take away much from the film and it is still enjoyable. Plus you’re watching this for the performances aspect more than anything.

Overall the movie has a great support cast including Stanley Tucci , Kristen Bell, and Alan Cumming. Some astounding musical numbers (my favorite being Cher’s solo due to lyric content). I highly recommend this for musical lovers and fans of Christina Aguilera or Cher. The director achieved everything you would want with this type of film, great music, fantastic singing, erotic dancing, and a cute love story. If the Burlesque Lounge existed in real life with them performing in it, you would find me there in the front row with a stupid smile on my face.
