[NEWS] CHRISTINA AGUILERA RETURNS TO HER LATINA ROOTS FOR 'CASA DE MI PADRE'

Will Ferrell is helping Christina Aguilera get back to her roots. "The Voice" judge has returned to Spanish-language singing with "Casa de Mi Padre," the lead track on the soundtrack to the comedian's telenovela-influenced comedy of the same name.

The new song finds Aguilera making a welcome return to Latin music. No synthesizers or AutoTune here -- instead, the production has dramatic Spanish guitars, blaring trumpets, and a gospel backing all with a flamenco twist. Aguilera's vocals are in the forefont, doing what she does best: belting and sustaining the notes most can only dream of nailing.

In a treat for Latin fans, "Casa" marks a return to the half-Ecuadorian Aguilera's early days. Aguilera most notably released a Spanish version her debut album titled "Mi Reflejo," in 2000. The album featured Spanish version of her No. 1 singles "Genie In A Bottle," "What A Girl Wants," "Come On Over, Baby (All I Want Is You)" as well as original tracks. She went on to win Best Female Pop Vocal Album at the 2001 Latin Grammy Awards.

Aguilera had only dipped into the genre since with a Spanish version of "Stripped" track "Get Mine, Get Yours" titled "Dame Lo Que Yo Te Doy"in 2002 and a contribution to the 2004 "Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights" soundtrack with "El Beso Del Final." The closest thing fans have heard since is the Spanglish banger "Desnudate," featured on 2010's "Bionic."

The "Casa de Mi Padre" soundtrack was digitally released on Tuesday, with the film due in theaters on Friday, March 17. The song opens the film.

[NEWS] CHRIS MANN REVEALS HIS FAVORITE CHRISTINA SONGS & DESCRIBES HER IN 3 WORDS

Chris Mann: Q&A

1) If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would you go?
Dubai. I want to play tennis on top of the Burj Al Arab Hotel. Is that too much to ask?! It's the highest tennis court in the world. I'm a huge tennis fan so that would be amazing...unless I fell off.
2) Who is your celebrity crush?
Aimee Teegarden from Friday Night Lights. I'm catching up on the whole series on Netflix right now--I'm only 6 years behind. My other crush is Casey Rose Wilson and, well, the entire cast of Happy Endings.
3) What song is currently your guilty pleasure?
"Who Says" by Demi Lovato. Guilty as charged.
4) Who would play you in a movie?
Ben Stiller...duh. I have a natural Blue Steel face and am also "ridiculously good looking."
5) What's your favorite song from your coach?
Genie in a Bottle--the Original. Ironically, I remember seeing the video for the first time on a church ski trip in high school. My other favorite song from Xtina is "Walk Away" from the Stripped album. Wait...I lied--I have the fondest memory of driving from Nashville to Kansas with 2 friends from college and jamming "Infatuation" (from the 2002 Winter Olympics live version) the whole way. The extremely white announcer and the hand clapping breakdown at the end are noteworthy.
6) What was your first concert ever?
Hmmm, I don't really remember...I feel like it was a Brain McKnight concert in Kansas City where my friend and I snuck back stage after the show. This is a talent I've always had. Later in life I went to another Brian McKnight concert in Nashville and snuck back stage AGAIN using a Kit Kat Bar wrapper disguised as a back stage pass--I told him he needed to improve his security detail.
7) Tattoos?
Four. One on my forearm in Italian that says "Canto e Vivo" meaning "I sing and I live" and another on my (bulging) bicep in Coptic meaning "Without limits." I also have one on my back in Coptic that says "Dreams, Determination, Success and Faith" in a circle around the Chi Rho symbol. My newest one is on my left forearm--it's a chain with a roman numeral 5 hanging from it meaning "fifth time's a charm." I've been knocked down so many times on this musical journey but I keep getting up and trying again. For me it ain't "third time's a charm"...that one happened years ago.

My tattoos are basically my road map in life. I'm planning my next one now...it's going to be a map of Hogwarts on my lower back.
8) My last text message says:
"I love you very much"
9) People would be surprised to learn that I have ____ on my iPod.
Hardly any classical music. I love me some British Rock, Top 40 and...drum roll please...country music! (I'm actually a big Blake Shelton fan. I keep tryin' to win 'em over. Here's hopin'.)
10) My coach in 3 words:
1) Genuine

2) Gifted

3) Gorgeous

[SMART-PHONE FRIENDLY]

Savannah Robinson:
Hi, my name is Savannah. I'm 12 and have been a victim of bullying. Thought I'd shoot this video for all of my friends who have experienced the same, and all the other underdogs out there. Let's stand up! :-)

[NEWS] FROM THE VAULT: CHRISTINA AGUILERA 'DIRRTY'

The year was 2001 and a certain Britney Spears had freshly shocked the industry with an altogether raunchier image and attitude courtesy of her ‘Slave for You’ video.

However, as the age old saying goes, never count out the underdog. A statement which rung true and then some when longtime chart-rival Christina Aguilera roared back with ‘Dirrty’ a year later.

The first single to be lifted from her highly-praised and mega-selling sophomore set, ‘Stripped’, 2002’s ‘Dirrty’ served as an introduction to Ms. Aguilera’s explicit and controversial alter-ego Xtina.

Leaving behind the safeness which defined her earlier effort, the one-time girl-next-door, was now leaving her doors open – both lyrically and visually – in a way we’d never seen before. Ditched were the Pop-by-the-numbers tracks, in favor of a filthy urban sound and sexed-up demeanor, ‘Dirrty’ (and the ‘Stripped’ era) marked a turning point in Christina’s career.

Joining forces again with Rockwilder, the very man responsible for her then-latest hit ‘Lady Marmalade’, Aguilera wanted something radically different from than anything she’d done before to usher in her newest project. The result was this bodacious, unapologetic party anthem based on featured rapper Redman’s hit ‘Let’s Get Dirty’.

And while the 30 year old might be a judge on rival show, The Voice, she definitely served up the X-Factor. Helmed by the great David Lachapelle, the accompanying video depicted an underground party headlined by biker chick Xtina, where dancing suggestively was a requirement and wearing as few clothes as possible a staunch obligation.

From the classic choreography to the now-iconic leather chaps, it’s safe to say that Dirrty sits effortlessly within the upper echelon of the Top 5 female videos of the 00’s.

And with the mother of one now in the studio working on a comeback (after a series of commercial disappointments), we can’t help but get excited that she’s already christened the sound as echoing that of ‘Stripped’. Of course, we don’t particularly endorse her re-treading ‘Dirrty’ water (see: ‘Not Myself Tonight’); however we seriously hope Baby Jane can recapture that imperfectly-perfect combination of strength, hope and vulnerability that made the album it called home so captivating and relatable.

When you hit rock bottom, the only way is up. As such, let’s hope ‘Moves Like Jagger’ global chart success is but a small indication of what’s to come for Christina Aguilera, one of the most gifted artists of this generation.

THE NINE YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF 'DIRRTY'

Editors Note:
9 years ago today Christina Aguilera debuted her new single off of her mind blowing album, 'Stripped'. I (Karlos) was actually just starting my Sophomore year in high school when 'Dirrty' was released. You can imagine what was going through my mind when I saw her grinding on women while soaking wet. I couldn't believe that the one girl that sang 'Genie In A Bottle' was dancing on tables, wearing ass-less chaps, etc, but I'm glad she did cause if she wouldn't have I would have probably of gotten bored with her music (i.e. Britney Spears). Now that I think about it it was a great way to start my sophomore year in high school.

[NEWS] THE END OF THE WORLD: WHAT WOULD YOU WATCH, READ, LISTEN TO BEFORE DOOMSDAY?

If pamphlet-wielding prognosticators are to be believed, tomorrow (May 21, 2011) is

Doomsday—the hour in which a massive earthquake will rock the globe heralding the end of the world. Pretty gloomy stuff, huh? Whether or not (most likely not) that particular prophecy comes true, it got us thinking about how we would want to spend our last day, pop-culturally speaking. If we had only hours to enjoy our favorite movies, TV series, music and books, what title would get preference?

After the jump, Hollywood Crush writers weigh-in on the one pop-culture pick they'd relish before the rapture.

It's no secret I'm addicted to "Friends." I can, and often do, relate pretty much anything in life to an episode of the beloved comedy. (Even when people don't get my references.) So there's no doubt that I'd be glued to the TV marathon viewing my favorite show of all time. Could I BE anymore addicted? Nope. Not possible.—Breia Brissey

"Clueless." There I said it. If I had to pick one thing to read, listen to or watch before the end of the world it would be the movie that defined the early '90s chick flick and shot Alicia Silverstone to bubble-gum chewing fame. Sure, it seems like an absurd pick (most people would probably choose an intelligent book like "Reflections of a Life Well Spent,"—okay, I made that title up), but for me, I’d want to revel in something that reminded me of my youth and that’s what "Clueless" is for me—a completely carefree, drama-less flick meant to make you smile and forget that the world is about to end in 3, 2, 1… —Nuzhat Naoreen

"The Golden Compass" by Philip Pullman. I've actually never seen the film version (mostly out of fear that it won't live up to my impossible standards given my love for the source material), but I would spend my final hours curled up with "The Golden Compass," for sure. I don't throw around the phrase "life changing" flippantly, so brace yourselves: This book is a life-changer. I couldn't go without giving it one more read. —Kayleigh Roberts

Before the end of the world as we know it, I'd have to listen to "Christina Aguilera's" 2002 masterpiece, "Stripped", one last time. This is one of the only albums I know of in which there's genuinely no filler; every single track is flawless. Christina's not-of-this-universe voice elicits every emotion: pride ("Soar"), sadness ("I'm OK"), sass ("Can't Hold Us Down"), humor ("Stripped, Part 2"), and the list goes on. It's complete pop perfection. —Jyll Saskin

Does "marry Ryan Gosling" count as a pop-culture-related act? If not, my runner-up option would be a carefully curated marathon of "Sex and the City" accompanied by a pint of Cinnamon Bun-flavored Ben & Jerry's (lactose intolerance be damned, it's the eleventh hour!). I'd watch only my favorite episodes, like "My Motherboard, My Self" and "Out of the Frying Pan" (the one in which Smith shaves his head in solidarity). Somehow I imagine "Zombies and the City" just won't be as compelling. —Amy Wilkinson

[VIDEO OF THE DAY] CHRISTINA AGUILERA: 'THE VOICE WITHIN'

Editor's Note:
As we patiently wait for the Release of the "You Lost Me" music video i thought it would be a good idea to go back and reflect on what Christina has brought to the table so far. Bionic IS Christina's most FUN album she has ever released with beat popping tracks like "Desnudate" "Elastic Love" "Prima Donna" among many more. The first single "Not Myself Tonight" was the phttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.giferfect single to be released putting the cherry on top for the product with the Music Video, giving it the style and look of how she wanted to promote it..with the You Lost Me music video preview i saw almost 2 videos combined, "Beautiful" & "The Voice Within" But knowing Christina Aguilera shes going to push boundaries again and make a video that will be astounding. We still have a lot coming from Christina, remember we are still waiting for the Theatrical Trailer, book, and soundtrack for Burlesque. Among many more performances and surprises she has in store for you, like a ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE COVER she has made one for every album lets see what iconic cover she bring for this edition.
